Welcome to The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park. Located on the grounds of the former Traverse City State Hospital’s farm, this garden honors the past while providing an enduring legacy for the future. Gardens that highlight native, healing and edible plants are being constructed and grown side-by-side with the renovation and repurposing of original farm buildings. Watch as the foundation of the old Horse Barn is restored to our Walled Garden. See the transformation of the century-old Wagon House as it is converted to a LEED-certified classroom and event venue. Come experience the history of the site and discover a garden that celebrates a sustainable future.

"No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden."
